We are working on Purpose of the Statement this month.
It is important for students to not only understand their purposes of their statements, but to also understand others' purposes of their statements. Then they need to go further into their understanding to begin to figure out whether their purpose is effective and/or how does it affect others' opinion of them?
In this activity, the students divided up the purposes of the sentences and then created pages with the the purpose of the statement and at least four examples of statements that demonstrate this purpose. Then we put the pages up to create a Purpose Quilt.
Click here for a data sheet to keep track of their purposes of the statements. This also provides the students with a sheet of purposes of the statements.
Initially, we demonstrated purposes and brainstormed on purposes of statements.
