For many of my students we need to work on Perspective Taking! Here is a fun activity that you can try.
We used PhotoBooth and took pictures of them in the fish tank, a first time roller coaster rider, a pilot flying in the clouds, an astronaut seeing earth from her spaceship, etc. Then they have to either have someone interview them as that fish or person, write a dialogue as if you were a fish in the tank, write a story about what they might be seeing including feelings that they might be experiencing, or take on that persona for the entire speech time and respond accordingly.
The kids LOVED seeing their faces printed in these various settings.
It was more difficult than they thought it would be, but from here we had a discussion about being able to see things through others' eyes and to try and figure out what others might be feeling. Then we moved on to why that would be important in a social situation that they might be involved in as a middle school student.
